School Council

At St Joseph’s, our School Council gives children a real voice in how our school is run and helps them to become confident, responsible young leaders. It is an important part of our commitment to listening to pupils and involving them in decisions that affect their everyday school life.

Who is on the School Council?

Children are elected by their classmates to represent their class.

Representatives come from across the school, giving every year group a voice.

Council members wear badges so that other pupils know who their representatives are.

What does the School Council do?

They meet regularly with members of the leadership team to discuss ideas and issues raised by pupils.

They provide suggestions from their classes for meetings and feed back decisions afterwards.

They help to make decisions about school life, such as playground equipment, themed days and special events.

They plan and support fundraising activities for charities and school projects.

They lead on projects to improve our school environment and promote our school values.

Why is the School Council important?

It gives children the chance to share their ideas and know that they are being listened to.

It helps pupils to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

It encourages a sense of responsibility, respect and pride in our school community.

Through the School Council, our pupils learn that their views matter and that they can make a positive difference to St Joseph’s.

Autumn Term Project 2025

Through leading the Samaritans Shoebox Appeal, our School Council have shown what it means to serve others with kindness, generosity and compassion. They have developed their leadership, organisation and teamwork skills, while reminding the whole school community that even small acts of giving can have a big impact.

We are very proud of our School Council and of all our children and families who supported the appeal and helped to share hope with others.
