NSPCC Week – Learning to Stay Safe 💚
This week, our Year 1 children took part in NSPCC’s ‘Speak Out. Stay Safe.’ programme — an important part of learning how to keep ourselves safe and know who we can turn to for help.
We began by talking about what it means to feel safe and how everyone has the right to feel happy and protected. The children learned about trusted adults — the grown-ups they can talk to if they ever feel worried, scared, or unsure about something. We made a class list of trusted adults, including parents, teachers, carers, and other family members.
We also introduced the NSPCC’s Childline number: 0800 1111, and explained that this is a special number children can call if they ever need to talk to someone in private. The children practised remembering the number and talked about different situations where they might need help.
Through stories, discussions, and gentle activities, the children explored the idea that their body belongs to them and that it’s always okay to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. We were so proud of how mature, thoughtful, and respectful the children were during these important conversations.
NSPCC Week has helped build confidence and awareness in our young learners, and we’ll continue to support them in knowing how to stay safe and speak out.
