  • Super Kind Award

We have signed up for ‘The Super Kind Award’!

This is a recognition program aimed at empowering children to engage in social action and make a positive impact in their communities through the SuperKind Education platform.

Participating in the Super Kind Award helps our school community to

    • Foster a culture of kindness and social responsibility among pupils.
    • Recognise and celebrate the efforts of pupils in making a difference in their communities.

Here at St Joseph’s we aim to place social action and charity work at the heart of our education.

    December 2025 – Year 6 in action!

As part of their Super Kind Class project, our Year 6 pupils explored the impact of the cost of living during a PSHE lesson and were keen to support families in our community, particularly over the Christmas period. Inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, especially the principles of human dignity, solidarity and the preferential option for the poor, the children wanted to put their faith into action by helping those most in need.

The class worked collaboratively to plan and organise a breakfast sale before school, selling sausage and bacon sandwiches to raise money for our local food bank. The children showed fantastic initiative by writing letters to Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Co-op requesting donations. With the generous support of these local businesses, the pupils prepared, cooked and sold the sandwiches themselves.

Through their hard work, compassion and teamwork, they raised an amazing £168, which was proudly donated to the local food bank, living out our school mission by showing kindness, service and care for others within our community.

    January 2026- Reception in action!

As part of our class project and our involvement in the Super Kind Award, Reception have been learning about how we can protect our local environment, with a special focus on the River Wye. Linking this learning to our class name, the children created eye-catching posters and banners to raise awareness about caring for the river and the impact our actions can have.

We then took our messages into Ross, visiting the Market Place to share them with the wider community. The children showed fantastic confidence, teamwork and a real sense of responsibility, making this a brilliant example of kindness in action and a key part of the Super Kind Award.

We had a wonderful morning on our 'mini-protest'. The public were very impressed, and we were even visited by the Ross Gazette! Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious babychino at Costa Coffee (a huge thank you to them!) before walking home via The Prospect to look down at the River Wye itself. It was a fantastic morning of learning, community engagement and spreading awareness.

     January 2026 - Community Non-Uniform Day

In Januarywe had the pleasure of welcoming the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye to school for the Mayor’s Community Non-Uniform Day, which was supported by local schools.

The visit helped raise funds for Age UK Wyvern, with support from the local community, including Ross-on-Wye Town Council.

The children really enjoyed meeting a special visitor.

Many thanks to the Mayor for taking the time to visit us.
